Welcome to the Volunteer Guide! By now, you should have familiarised yourself with the Matrix, the charity’s structure, and the members of the lead team. Most volunteers will be part of a team, and as the charity continues to grow, you may find yourself in new and exciting roles!
Inductions
All new volunteers begin with an induction. Prior to your induction, our vacant roles are made available for you to explore, and if you identify a role you would like to take on, we will proceed with onboarding you into the charity. Your induction will introduce you to your role and guide you through your first few months at the charity.
The diagram outlines your progression into the charity from the induction onwards:

Volunteers are always encouraged to grow and achieve more here at ALSA UK. Those who show passion and commitment to the charity are welcome to explore and try new roles. Available positions can be found on the Matrix, which is updated regularly.
Volunteer Conduct
ALSA UK has adopted a zero-tolerance policy; by agreeing to become a volunteer, you are adhering to this policy. Your responsibilities and expectations as a volunteer can be found in the Code of Conduct section.
Slack
Slack is our main communication platform, and most of our work is carried out online. Slack is organised into channels and direct messages. All volunteers are added to the Opportunities and ALSA UK Updates channels, where everyone is welcome to share updates and opportunities. You may also be added to other relevant channels depending on your role.
Breaks
Breaks can be requested whenever you need them. You must inform the VDL (Erza) and your team lead if you decide to take a break. Please ensure you let someone know so your absence is not mistaken for inactivity. A single break cannot exceed six months. If you require a longer break, you may need to consider stepping down as a volunteer. However, if you do need an extended break and enjoy being part of the community, you are always welcome to return to the charity when the timing is more suitable for you.
Social Media

We understand that some volunteers may choose to affiliate themselves with the charity online. Please ensure that you continue to follow our rules and guidelines when doing so, and if you are ever unsure about how to present yourself, feel free to reach out to a member of the Lead Team for guidance. Please be aware that breaching the zero-tolerance policy online may be considered grounds for removal from the charity.
