Navigating Interviews

Interviews can be intimidating, but success boils down to three key steps:

Prepare
Practise
Plan

Make a positive first impression with appropriate attire and body language. Prepare questions that showcase your understanding of the role.

Know the interview style of your universities

Since interview styles vary between universities, you need to know how you will be interviewed so that you can adequately prepare and not be caught off-guard.

Understand the course structure

Just as every university interviews differently, they also vary in the way they structure the course. This is why you should research the universities that you are applying to so you can choose a university that is the right fit for you. Also, it demonstrates to the interviewer your reasons for choosing their institution!

Prepare for the straight-forward questions

This might seem self-explanatory but consider the answer to questions like "Why do you want to be a doctor?" because it is extremely likely you will get asked this, but also by preparing the answers to simpler questions you'll be more clear-minded to answer more challenging questions.

Think about ethics!

There are many ethical considerations in the medical field that could be asked about in your interview. Familiarising yourself with these ethical topics can help interviewers better understand your understanding of medical ethics and ascertain if you are the right fit for the course.
